Asia Bibi, a Christian in Pakistan accused of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed, recently stood before a judge in Sheikhupura. She is being charged under the Pakistani Criminal Code 295-C, which says, “Use of derogatory remarks, etc; in respect of the Holy Prophet. Whoever by words, either spoken or written or by visible representation, or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.” All this because Bibi was accused of allegedly saying, “Jesus is alive. Mohammed is dead.” Those are two very true sentences.

Members of the “religion of peace” in Pakistan have threatened Christians with dire consequences if they do not convert to Islam. According to a report by the International Christian Concern, members of the Taliban sent letters on October 6th to Christians in Sargodha, Pakistan, warning them to convert to Islam or face dire consequences. In the letter, Christians are told to convert to Islam, pay a tax imposed on religious minorities or leave the country. The letter warns that those who refuse one of the choices, “would be killed, their property and homes would be burnt to ashes and their women would be treated as sex slaves. And they themselves would be responsible for this.” Over the past four months, 12 Christians have been killed by Muslims in Pakistan.

A polio outbreak has occurred in the Swat village in Pakistan as 13 cases have been confirmed in the last four months, with 62 cases in the entire country. Immunization efforts in the region have failed until recently due to Taliban control, whose leaders’ propaganda insists that polio vaccinations can make children infertile. On Monday, a fast-track anti-polio drive began in the area. Polio has been eradicated in most of the world, but residents of Pakistan, Nigeria, Afghanistan and India contract it regularly, according to the World Health Organization.

A Christian church in Jataykay village, Pakistan, was burned after a Christian boy, referred to in the article as Robert, was accused of blasphemy against the Quran, the Muslim holy book. However, the incident was apparently fueled by allegations the boy was having a love affair with a Muslim girl in the village. The blasphemy allegations against Robert were only applied after his relationship with the Muslim girl in the village became known. The church received partial damage because of the fire. Robert has been arrested but the blasphemy charge has yet to be registered against him.
