Asia Bibi, a Christian in Pakistan accused of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed, recently stood before a judge in Sheikhupura. She is being charged under the Pakistani Criminal Code 295-C, which says, “Use of derogatory remarks, etc; in respect of the Holy Prophet. Whoever by words, either spoken or written or by visible representation, or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.” All this because Bibi was accused of allegedly saying, “Jesus is alive. Mohammed is dead.” Those are two very true sentences.

State District Judge Tena Callahan of Texas ruled on Thursday that the state’s ban on homosexual marriage is unconstitutional because it violates the constitution’s guarantee of equal protection under the law. The ruling comes about because of two male residents of Texas who were married in Massachusetts three years ago and now want to divorce in Texas. Currently, the constitution of Texas explicitly states that marriage is an institution involving one man and one woman, after having been recently adopted by 75% of Texas voters.
