It’s very sad that in many places around the world, the freedom to be a follower of Christ is denied or severely limited.  Take, for example, Sarak Dubey, a Gospel for Asia-supported missionary arrested and jailed for building a church.  On October 15th, some anti-Christians complained to police about the followers of Christ and their new church building construction project.  Police arrested and jailed Sarak and several members of his congregation.  They are unable to resume construction until the village head drops the charges and grants permission.

NBC to air ‘Law and Order’ Abortionist Murder Episode

Much like the real-life drama that unfolded over the church murder of abortionist George Tiller this past summer, NBC is set to air an episode of “Law and Order” that carries a very similar premise: an abortionist is gunned down in church. And while the episode is supposed to give airtime to both sides of the abortion debate, I find it tasteless of NBC to carry such an episode. As if there wasn’t enough finger-pointing and, ultimately, plenty of bad publicity for Christians in America (a church is a church is a church to those who do not know God’s word), the airing of this type of scenario on television is just stirring the pot, in my opinion.

Obama Critical of ‘Old Values’ About Homosexuality

President Obama and his family were recently spotted leaving St. John’s Episcopal Church, yet Obama recently delivered the keynote address to the Human Rights Campaign in which he criticized people who hold to “old attitudes” about homosexuality. Obama also praised the passage of the homosexual hate crimes bill in the House last Thursday and said he was preparing to sign the bill in to law once it passes Congress. As followers of Christ, we are to hate the sin and love the sinner, but I have to question Obama’s apparent “buffet-style” belief in God’s word. All scripture is given for inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, according to 2 Timothy 3:16. That’s all scripture, not bits and pieces that are suitable for anyone’s unbiblical beliefs.

A Christian pastor was killed by Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia guerrillas in San Jose del Guaviare, Columbia, on September 21st. Pastor Manuel and his wife had been pastoring a church in Chopal village, a region south of San Jose del Guaviare for eight years, where they faced many challenges as the guerrillas had closed many churches in the area. Guerrillas made an appointment with Pastor Manuel, which was anticipated to be a meeting to grant authorization to have a church there officially, only to have the pastor shot five times. In April, Pastor Manuel participated in an evangelical event which brought three guerrillas and seven members of the paramilitary militia to Christ.

After a neighbor complained, the Immanuel International Christian Centre in Walthamstow was told to keep its amplified sermons and music down.  The church’s Pastor, Dunni Odetoyinbo, claims the city council told him to turn down the volume on the music and the sermons so as to not offend the Muslim community.  The offended Muslim and neighbor of the church, Baha Uddin, said he was unable to use his living room or his garden on Sundays because of the noise and it made him “depressed.”  Other neighbors say the noise isn’t a problem.

Lutheran Bishop Warns to Not Withhold Tithes in Protest

Bishop Mark Hanson, the presiding bishop over the nation’s largest Lutheran denomination, has called for members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to not withhold donations to protest the recent acceptance of non-celibate gay and lesbian leaders into the clergy. Hanson fears a funding shortage would hurt the church’s mission. I think if the ELCA would preach the whole gospel instead of making exceptions to the inspired word of God, their members may not want to withhold their contributions.
