The latest numbers of the spread of the swine flu strain are “very sobering,” according to Dr. Anne Schuchat, a health official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In past winters, the CDC has counted 40 or 50 total child deaths during the entire flu season. However, since September, 43 children have died from the illness, including 11 just during the past week. The CDC says this strain of the virus is different from the typical flu strain because it strikes the young far more than the old.
